Who are Leading Youth Forward
Leading Youth Forward are a Perth charity with a powerful mission - to enhance the lives of at-risk young people in our community.
At-risk youth may:
Struggle with mental health
Have been exposed to alcohol or drug abuse
Suffered physical abuse or experienced domestic violence
Be living in alternative care, like foster care
Have experienced a family breakdown
Unfortunately, the above circumstances are not exhaustive.
Teens that carry the weight of these situations can withdraw from all their futures have to offer - things like community, careers, hobbies etc.
Youth in the Spotlight
The pressures on youth in modern society are immense. Their lives are more accessible than ever before in this digital age, as are perceived social standards and a view of what life “should” look like through the rose coloured lens of social media.
If you’ve seen the Netflix series, Adolescence, you’ll appreciate that all youth, no matter their background, are sadly at risk from any number of pressures in today’s world. If you haven’t watched it yet, you can learn more about some of the themes and hard hitting questions that it raises in this article by the ABC from March 2025.
Our youth are our future so let’s work together to ensure their future is bright.
How Leading Youth Forward Helps At-Risk Youth in Perth
Their Youth Development Program provides incredible support to teens in years 7 to 10 by:
Providing a year long, one-on-one mentoring program
Offering a safe, supportive and reliable community support
Helping teens to build their sense of self worth
Hosting engaging events & experiences throughout the year like camp outs and large group events
Why Leading Youth Forward need our help
Providing support to our community for well over a decade, Leading Youth Forward have helped over 400 at-risk teens - with manying staying with LYF for 4 years! In 2024 alone they supported 60 youth, with support of 100 volunteer mentors.
Teens and their caregivers aren’t charged to be part of the LYF program, so their team of selfless volunteers rely on community support to ensure they can continue their incredible work.
Their mission translates to a brighter future for our next generation. So, let’s work together to support LYF and help them drive critical change for at-risk youth in Perth.
Let’s give these teens the chance to write their own narrative, and to relish in the opportunity of the rest of their lives.
